The Day I Found Out My Son Had Cancer — 3 Comments

  1. Just want to let you know my son, Paul, is a JMML survivor. He was diagnosed back in 1999. He was already 5 years old, which is quite old for JMML. It took Texas Children’s Hospital over a month to make a diagnosis. When they took a bone marrow sample, they said it looked “bizarre”! I will never forget that word. They said that because he was a boy and already 5 yo, his chance of survival was very low…..10%.

He is now 21yo…. big and strong (yes, sterile) and you’d never know he nearly died. He was intubated (put on life support) 3 times before he finally had his bmt. Once he got his bmt, everything was so much better. He luckily had a perfect match from a female nurse here in Texas. His twin did not match and neither did any family member.

We are very thankful for the doctors at TXCH…. they saved my son’s life.

Just want to let you know there are long-term survivors.
